Entry: random ramblings no.06! oh what a holy week Sunday, April 08, 2007

so it is here again (and is about to end... hehe...), HOLY WEEK! the week that christians here in the Philippines stop doing their work so that they can reflect on the Passion of Christ. the week where some people go on their pilgrimage or do their penance for the sins they did the previous year. the week where barkadas to extensive planning to figure out which churches to go for the Visita Iglesia, Stations of the Cross, or Alay Lakad. the week that working professionals wait for all year round because there's no work for a couple of days. no need to file fo a vacation leave, everyone flies off to bora or puerto. it's the best week anyone can have!!!

well i hate to admit it but that i think holy week may be losing it's true meaning to the current generation. as i said in the latter part above, holy week is becoming just another excuse not to go to work. yes there are still a few people who keeps the spirit of the holy week alive but it's becoming less and less.

anyway, i experienced a whole new different holy week this year. this is the 1st holy week where in i had to work in the office. it was such a bore! hahaha... this is also the 1st time i heard of the "Alay Lakad" where people will walk all the way to Antipolo from Quiapo. i said to myself, are there really people who will go through that??? well i was surprised when i went out of the office to see that the whole ortigas ave was unpassable because of the numebr of people walking in the street. it was just like EDSA 2 all over again! hahahaha... i had to go back inside and wait for my friend so i can hitch a ride home.

come holy friday, i attended my first "Stations of the Cross", and mass for the "Veneration of the Cross." it was fun singing in the mass (even if mark left me all alone in one song i was unfamiliar with!) with the other choir.

i hope we can continue the spirit of holy week in the coming years. it's such a shame if we let our wonderful practices be forgotten. so next year, instead of planning for a trip to bora or puerto, plan with your friends to visit churches or go to mass. it'll be cheaper, but the spiritual rewards is greater.

btw, i'm now in the office and it's EASTER!!! huhu... how unfiar is that???
